CEO NewsletterCommitment is an often used word but one that rarely gets the full support it warrants. It means different things to different people and can be therefore be difficult to measure. I would like to think that we at Centerplate are a notable exception – we all hold the same view of the meaning of commitment – we commit to the things we know are important and then we follow through on that commitment. Basically, we keep our word.
From my perspective our own people are a good barometer of assessing our commitment. As you will recall, at our Annual Conference in Denver I presented how we are being ranked by our employees. This is a very important measure because if people do not feel good about where they spend a significant portion of the lives, don’t like the CEO/management and would not recommend the company to friends, then we have lost the battle before we start.
I’m pleased to say that since our conference our employee scores on GlassDoor have gotten even better. Right now, we have the highest rankings in the industry – overall at 3.7 out of 4, our CEO/Management ranking is at 97%, and 71% of our employees would recommend our company to a friend.
We are striving to be the globe’s most trusted Event Hospitality partner and therefore we need to compare ourselves against the best brands in the industry such as the Ritz, Disney and Apple. From the chart below you can see that we hold our own but we have work to do, especially in the employee recommended category. Ultimately we have a legitimate right to run with this pack of elite brand leaders. Let’s focus on this and our scores will go up but more importantly our employees will be even more committed and our performance will benefit from the improvement.

We have a major opportunity to drive this performance in the coming months. I need you all to login to GlassDoor and fill out a survey. It takes less than 10 minutes. I need your commitment to capturing quality feedback that will help us market ourselves better for new opportunities. The reality is the more we do this the faster we will grow. Stated another way, if you want more opportunities to grow, commit to getting us the things needed to do just that.
In closing, I want to see at least one review from each venue and department in the next week. I hope I can count on you. I want us to be in pole position as we enter Y14. I’d like to see our overall rating in the 3.9 range, CEO/Management rating at 98% and post a 90%+ for employee recommended. I know we can do this!
