Sophie’s at Saks Fifth Avenue Opens in Sarasota
The second Sophie’s at Saks Fifth Avenue opened this fall under the Fifth Dining Group. In an interview with Sarasota Magazine, Centerplate Restaurant Group President Michael Kaufman talked about the inspiration for Sophie’s, which was named for fashion icon and Saks impresario, Sophie Gimble. “The inspiration for Sophie’s is drawn directly from Gimbel… elegant, authentic, fresh, simple and surprising.”
Located on the 2nd floor of Saks Fifth Avenue in The Mall at University Town Center, Sophie’s features a delightful bar with views into the kitchen, a luxuriously intimate dining room and a private dining area perfect for business or social events. Its outdoor terrace bar and lounge offer a relaxing atmosphere in the shade or in the sun!
General Manager Mark Resnick and Executive Chef Dianna MacPhee joined the Fifth Dining team to launch a signature menu with Sarasota-inspired dishes, which include grilled cobia from local waters served with shaved vegetable salad, coriander, and coconut ginger sauce. Another fast favorite has been the crab cake with a San Marzano tomato bisque. Chef Dianna began her career as a sous chef under two James Brad Award-winning chefs: Lydia Shire in Boston, and Vitaly Paley of Portland, Oregon. Previously the executive chef at Neiman Marcus, Dianna combines a passion for food and a love of the Sarasota community.
Supporting the opening of this exciting new space were: Cathy Green, Alex Reyes, Leigh Russo, Katie DeVantier, Todd Andrews, Terri Antley, Angela Sloan, April Holland, Michael Krstovic, John Johnson, Missy Garrett, Ron Aleman, Mark Casper, Bianca Rodriguez, Maria Dabreu, Dan Carlone, Nathan Batista, David Skorka, Matteo Casini, and Cynthia Flot.
