Motivational Tuesday – Sept. 3, 2019
Motivational MondayHi Team,
I hope everyone had a happy and safe Labor Day holiday! Please see this week’s Motivational Tuesday submitted by Marissa Rafferty, Hospitality Administrative Assistant at the Colorado Convention Center.
Joke of the Week:
Why are frogs so happy?
They eat whatever bugs them.
Safety:
Winter is just around the corner! Winter slips and falls can easily be avoided by taking the following precautions:
• Walk like a penguin by focusing on your footing and taking short, slow, and flat-footed steps
• Avoid using cell phones or carrying large loads while walking
• Walk on marked paths and avoid short cuts
• Wear proper footwear for weather
• Watch for changing conditions
• Step down and not out when getting out of a vehicle
• Report icy conditions to a supervisor or maintenance person
HR Best Practice:
Make Information Easily Accessible
Information sharing is essential. This is an area where a lot of large companies struggle: How do you keep track of who knows what, so you know where to go to with your questions? According to Jeffery Pfeffer (American business theorist), there are two reasons why information sharing is so important. Firstly, open communication about strategy, financials, and operations creates a culture in which people feel they are trusted. It truly involves employees in the business. As an additional effect, it discourages hear-say and negative informal chatter. Secondly, if you want your people to share their ideas, they need to have an informed understanding of what’s going on in the business. Being informed about the business is also something that employees often mention as something they find important in attitude surveys, as well as having a chance to contribute to and influence decisions affecting their working life.
