Safety: Electrical Safety

Working Safety with Electricity It is vitally important to take safety precautions when working with electricity. Safety must not be compromised, and ground rules need to be followed. Engineers, linemen, electricians, and others work with electricity directly, including overhead lines, cable harnesses and circuit assemblies. Office workers and sales people work with electricity indirectly and may also be exposed to electrical hazards.

If the power supply to the electrical equipment is not grounded or the path has been broken, fault current may travel through a worker’s body causing electrical burns or death.

  • Avoid standing in wet areas when using portable electrical power tools
  • Do not remove ground prongs from cord- and plug connected equipment or extension cords.
  • Do not use cords if grounds are missing
  • Use double-insulated tools and ground all exposed metal parts of equipment
  • Frequently inspect electrical systems to ensure that the path to ground is continuous

 

History of Mother’s Day

The History of Mother’s Day 2019 dates back to the 19th century, when women’s peace groups in United States of America often tried to establish holidays and regular activities in favor of peace and against war. A common regular activity was the meeting of groups of mothers whose sons had fought or died in the American Civil War.

In 1868, Ann Jarvis, created a committee to establish a “Mother’s Friendship Day” in order to reunite families that had been divided during the Civil War. There were several limited observances in the 1870s and the 1880’s but none achieved recognition beyond that. At the time, Protestant schools in the United States already held many celebrations and In New York City, Julia Ward Howe led an anti-war observance (Mother’s Day for Peace) on June 2, 1872 which was accompanied by a holiday nowadays known as Mother’s Day Proclamation.

Significance of Mother’s Day 2019

Mother’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on the second Sunday of May. It is a day that commemorates motherhood and appreciates all mothers and mother-figures (including grandmothers, great-grandmothers, stepmothers, and foster mothers) as well as their contribution to society.

Culinary: Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, time to make a Frittata Nonna!

INGREDIENTS

9 eggs

splash of milk

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 an onion, diced

3 cloves garlic chopped

1/2 to 3/4 cups chopped vegetables (any combination of fresh vegetables and leafy greens)

salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

2 handfuls grated, shredded, or crumbled cheese of your choice

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a pie plate or an 8×8-inch baking dish.

In a bowl, beat eggs with milk until combined. Set aside.

In a skillet, warm oil over medium heat. Add onions and garlic and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until soft. Add vegetables and cook, stirring, until softened. Season with salt and pepper.

Slide vegetables into prepared pie plate, sprinkle cheese on top, and pour eggs evenly over all. Bake for 20 minutes; eggs should be set and firm, but not too dry. Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
