HR Best Practices:

When an a new employee comes in to complete the rest of new hire paperwork, take any necessary pictures for building IDs and scan the employee’s hand for AOD. This will ensure the employee has the necessary tools when he/she begins work.

Safety: Avoid Shortcuts for Safety

A shortcut could be because someone has the perception that they’re in a hurry for
something, several possible explanations – a personal priority on working fast, or
proverbial “time is money” attitude. Whatever the reason, when the need to work fast
outranks the need to work safe, mishaps can occur.

Common Shortcuts
1. Out of complacency or a rush to accomplish tasks,
you may not stop to think about doing the task
safety.
2. Do not climb onto shelves or racks to reach an
object rather than use a portable safety ladder.
3. Always take the time to get a taller ladder instead of
using one that you have to climb onto the highest
rung.
4. Pre-trip inspections are important because they help
detect problems before a vehicle goes out on the
road. In addition to compromising safety, neglecting
to check brakes, tires and other vehicle equipment
can result in lost productivity.

Global Health and Fitness Month
Global Health and Fitness Month is an international observance of
health and fitness.
During Global Health and Fitness Month, we should live healthier
lifestyles through:
• Several occasions of healthy eating, and physical
activity. Some examples include: going for a walk;
cooking a healthy meal; participating in an exercise
class; or quit smoking.
• Health Groups can be formed to create a sustainable
activity continuing even beyond the month.
Examples include: walking, jogging or cycling
groups; health recipe or health lunch groups; join a
sports team.

Fun Health Changes for Health and Fitness Month:
• Organize an early morning physical activity opportunity
• Take the stairs if possible – Did you know that you burn 0.04 calories for every step
that you take?
• Swap the soda with water
• Take a short walk when possible
• Stretch once an hour
• Switch out junk food with a healthy choice

Wellness programs have been shown to: Improve health care cost management; enhance
productivity; and decrease rates of illness and injuries. Don’t forget to stretch before you
start working.

Shrimp Scampi with Pasta

Shrimp Scampi with Pasta

Rated as 4.58 out of 5 Stars
“Well-rounded seafood and pasta dish. Good with any pasta; angel hair is less filling.”

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) package linguine pasta
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 shallots, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pinch kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil, or to taste

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil; cook linguine in boiling water until nearly tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons butter with 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir shallots, garlic, and red pepper flakes in the hot butter and oil until shallots are translucent, 3 to 4 minutes. Season shrimp with kosher salt and black pepper; add to the skillet and cook until pink, stirring occasionally, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove shrimp from skillet and keep warm.
  3. Pour white wine and lemon juice into skillet and bring to a boil while scraping the browned bits of food off of the bottom of the skillet with a wooden spoon. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in skillet, stir 2 tablespoons olive oil into butter mixture, and bring to a simmer. Toss linguine, shrimp, and parsley in the butter mixture until coated; season with salt and black pepper. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon olive oil to serve.
