Colleagues:

Centerplate has a high deductible insurance program for general, auto and workers’ compensation. We have recently conducted a comprehensive analysis of payment patterns and have realized that we have spent in excessive of $2.5 million on guest accidents primarily due to (i) slip and falls, and (ii) guests struck by accidents.

These incidents are commonly the result of transporting hot boxes, push carts or other portable equipment in areas where guests congregate (corridors or halls), or slip/fall incidents resulting from wet floors.

General Managers are required to review their operating procedures and take the appropriate steps to mitigate these incidents that subsequently result in significant liability to Centerplate.

Centerplate’s policies are highlighted below – while these policies are not new, we are asking for you and your team to place additional diligence in its execution and compliance.

  • Slip & Fall Prevention – Place “wet floor” signs during and after any and all cleaning activity or spills. In addition, if an employee is aware of a spill/hazard, we must send for clean-up but stay with spill and/or hazard, and immediately place a sign in the impacted area in order to prevent a guest from slipping and falling.
  • Struck By Prevention – It is generally unacceptable to move hot boxes, push carts, portable equipment or operate forklifts in areas where guests congregate (corridors or halls). If this is absolutely unavoidable and unfeasible at your operation, then a SPOTTER is required to ensure clear path of travel. The SPOTTER is in addition to the person pushing the cart and SPOTTER’s primary responsibility is to ensure guest safety, making this a mandatory two (2) person operation.
  • Guest Incident Reports – We have redesigned our internal accident report to gather relevant and important information which will allow us to better manage and mitigate the aggregate cost and liability of guest incidents. YOU ARE REQUIRED to complete a CENTERPLATE report form for all guest related accidents and submit the new Guest Incident Report to Corporate Risk Management within 48 hours. It is not acceptable to rely solely on our client to investigate and report the incident.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
