PUZZLES FOR THIS WEEK:

1) Milk jug- A milkman has 2 empty jugs: a 3 gallon jug and a 5 gallon jug. How can he measure exactly 1 gallon without wasting any milk and without using any other equipment other than the 2 empty jugs?

2) Numbers: If you were to spell out numbers, how far would you have to go before you would find the letter “A”?

3) Fish: Let’s continue testing your “math ability”: You have 10 fish in your fish tank, 5 drowned, 3 came back to life. How many fish do you have?

ANSWERS FROM LAST WEEK: 

1) RADAR- Answer: 80 different ways (within the diagram below)

Start with the R in the top left-hand corner. Go to the A on the right. Now go straight on to the D. You can now complete the word in four ways, because there are four A’s available through which you may reach an R.

There are four ways of reading through the right-hand A. There are the same number of ways through the A that is immediately below the starting point. The total is now eight.

If you take the third route diagonally through the A, you will have the option of using any one of the three D’s, You may now complete the word in four ways. You can spell RADAR in twelve ways through the diagonal A. Twelve plus eight equals twenty readings, that all start from the R in the top left-hand corner. The four corners are equal.

Four times twenty equals eighty different ways of spelling RADAR within the above diagram!

2) Sherlock Holmes- Answer: Mark Crimson

Answer: ?= Question Mark, so the note on the door reads “Question Mark Crimson. He broke your window. ”

    Fill the 3 gallon container, transfer to 5 gallon container twice – you’ll have a gallon left once you fill the 5 gallon container.
